FAQ on applying for ME-positions
What is the difference between CV and application?
CV is about
- Two A4 pages in which you describe your contact details, academic background, work experience with the most recent on the top, your special skills and competencies and perhaps your reference people.
- You may also include a photo with your CV but we recommend leaving those beach babe photos to the home album and selecting something a bit more appropriate!
- Unless we ask for, please do not attach your references and school records to your CV! We will run out of trees if we print all those documents on paper!
Application is about
- Your personal marketing letter which should attract us to read your CV as well and make us want to meet with you.
- It should not be longer than one A4.
- You should tailor your application to the job you are applying for and present us evidence why you are the most suitable for the role.
- If we want your salary request, you can write it at the end of the application.
A word of advice
- Make sure there are no grammar mistakes in either of the documents
- Both CV and application easy to read
- The main points stick out
Why should I include my salary request?
Salary requests
- help the recruiter to eliminate candidates who maybe over qualified for the position or ask too much
- tells the recruiter how the candidate values their skills and competencies. If there isn’t a mutual understanding of the requested and offered compensation level, there is no point wasting time and continuing with the process.
- It is also quite important to remember that some recruiters do not handle applications without the salary request if it has been asked for. Think carefully if you can take the risk of leaving it out.
What if I don’t know what I should request?
If you don’t know what you should request, then
- Think about what is the minimum salary you would accept to take the job. We all have our base line. Most unions offer median salary tables but be realistic of what to ask for, especially if you lack work experience.
- If you are unsure, explain that in the letter – rather than leave it out completely.
Can I call to ask for more information about an interesting job?
Absolutely you can! But please
- prepare few questions that help you to decide if you want to apply to the position or what you should write to get our attention.
- We are not able to tell you on the phone if your profile meets with the requirements; so please don’t read your CV out loud and expect us to give you a verdict.
- It’s also always polite to ask if the recruiting manager has a minute to spare with you and define what position you want to ask about.
- A good conversation may take you ahead in the process but so can a bad conversation.
- Preparation is worth a lot!
How do I know if the vacancy is still open and why does the deadline for applictions keep changing in some vacancies?
- As long as the advert is online you can send your application to us. Some of the online recruitment portals including our own require setting a end date for the validity of the advert.
- We usually start processing applications as they arrive and may make decisions as soon as the right person is found. Therefore if you are really interested in the position, we recommend applying to it as soon as possible.
- On the otherhand, we are also known for not making compromises. If we haven't found the right person by the first deadline, we don't hesitate prolonging the search until we find our match.
What is the recruitment process like?
- The most qualified candidates on paper are first telephone interviewed and the most interesting candidates are invited to personal interviews.
- Usually we have two rounds of personal interviews before decision making.
- You will also be invited to a work style analysis which is an online tool providing us an analysis of your expected work style.
- Once you have done the online test, you will receive a written feedback summary on your working style based on your responses to the test.
